Adrian Hernandez, M.D., reappointed to American Heart Association’s Southeast Board of Directors
DURHAM, N.C., Aug. 12, 2025 — The American Heart Association, Triangle is pleased to announce that Adrian Hernandez, M.D., was selected to the American Heart Association Southeast Board of Directors for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The American Heart Association is the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all. The Association’s Southeast region services Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Puerto Rico.
Dr. Hernandez is a professor of cardiology and medicine at Duke University School of Medicine. He also serves as vice dean and executive director of Duke Clinical Research and is a member of the Duke Clinical Research Institute and has been involved with the American Heart Association in various roles for more than 20 years.
“We are grateful for Dr. Hernandez’s leadership and longstanding contributions to the American Heart Association,” said Debra Lowder, executive director of the American Heart Association, Triangle and Eastern North Carolina. “His continued role on the Southeast Board of Directors will help guide our regional strategy and strengthen efforts to improve cardiovascular and brain health across the communities we serve.”

Dr. Hernandez will assist the organization in guiding efforts to reduce the incidence of heart disease and stroke, the Nos. 1 and 5 leading killers, respectively, of American men and women.
