Center for Healthy Living celebrates 12 years with new blood pressure kiosk

TYLER, Texas, Oct. 7, 2025 — The Center for Healthy Living, known locally as "The Center," will mark its 12th anniversary with the unveiling of a new blood pressure monitoring kiosk, part of a broader initiative to improve cardiovascular health and maternal wellness in East Texas. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in the fire bay of the center at 2815 Frankston Highway.

The kiosk, made possible through a grant from the American Heart Association and Molina Healthcare, will allow community members to check their blood pressure and access educational materials and referrals. In addition to the kiosk, 100 self-monitoring blood pressure devices will be distributed to help residents track their health at home.

“This milestone celebrates our commitment to provide optimal health of all northeast Texas communities,” said NET Health CEO George Roberts. “The Center for Healthy Living continues to remove barriers to care and to provide free, accessible services that empower individuals to take control of their health outcomes.”

In Smith County, about 27% of adults over age 20 have been diagnosed with high blood pressure — a rate higher than both the Texas average of 24% and the national average of 26.5%. Additionally, 28.5% of adults in Smith County are classified as obese, a major contributor to hypertension. These figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Community Health Status Indicators Report, highlight the urgent need for accessible screening and education.

The Center’s anniversary event will also spotlight its upcoming programming focused on decreasing disparities in maternal outcomes by providing education, screenings and support for women at every stage of pregnancy and postpartum care.

Speakers at the event will include representatives from the American Heart Association, Molina Healthcare, and NET Health. Attendees will receive information about maternal health resources and cardiovascular risk factors, especially those affecting women.

Established in 2013, The Center for Healthy Living offers free services including diabetes education, blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, nutrition counseling, free exercise programs and referrals to affordable primary care. The Center continues to serve as a vital resource for chronic disease prevention and health education in the Tyler area.
