How healthy are you? Online tool can help you find out in less than 10 minutes

AUSTINJan 23, 2026 —Every January, big health resolutions collide with real life and it can become overwhelming. With the newly relaunched My Life Check ® tool, the American Heart Association is offering a realistic alternative. In minutes, users can answer a question many people ask themselves as the calendar turns: How healthy am I?

My Life Check is a quick online calculator that provides a personalized heart health score, plus practical ways to improve it through manageable, real-life habits. The tool helps people set meaningful goals they can control and build at their own pace, turning big resolutions into simple steps that support long-term health.

In a time when it can be difficult to know what information to trust, My Life Check connects people to evidence-based guidance from the American Heart Association, a global leader in cardiovascular science for more than a century. The tool encourages progress over perfection and helps users make informed choices that fit their daily lives.

“Simplifying health information makes it easier to make healthy choices,” said Matt Ashley, M.D., J.D., chief medical officer at Centre for Neuro Skills. “The American Heart Association’s updated My Life Check tool offers a clear starting point. Improving habits all at once is tough, but with reliable science and a plan tailored to your life, small changes can have a big impact.”

How it works

Online visitors answer simple questions about everyday habits including eating patterns, physical activity levels, sleep habits, stress intensity, and cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure readings. Those who know their numbers can enter them without worrying that their information will be saved or shared. Those who don’t know their numbers can still get valuable health tips and find areas to improve. In less than 10 minutes, My Life Check provides:

 • A personalized heart health score

• Specific recommendations based on Life’s Essential 8

• Downloadable results for personal use

• Tips that focus on real life and realistic goals

Results are private and not stored, giving users control over their information.  Adults can revisit the tool anytime to celebrate progress, check in on goals and refresh what to work on next.

Why this matters

By 2050, more than 6 in 10 US adults will have some type of cardiovascular disease driven largely by significant increase in risk factors including high blood pressure and obesity. Small consistent changes like adding more color to meals, taking short walks, protecting sleep and pausing to manage stress all contribute to better heart health over time.

My Life Check supports this approach and helps people move from intention to action. Visit heart.org/MyLifeCheck to learn your heart health score and receive personalized guidance for a healthier you.
