Local Keynote Speaker and Consultant named 2024 Kansas City Woman of Impact Award Winner

KANSAS CITY, May 15, 2024 – Mary Messner has been honored as the 2024 Kansas City Woman of Impact Award Winner. Recognized by the American Heart Association for her exceptional commitment to advancing heart health, Messner distinguished herself among four outstanding local women who passionately supported the lifesaving initiatives of the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women® annual Woman of Impact™ campaign.

Messner's achievement is a testament to her dedication and leadership within the community. Throughout the nine-week fundraising and heart health education drive, she raised over $70,000 and actively participated in mission-impact activities, accumulating a remarkable 93,873 points, setting a new record for Women of Impact in Kansas City. Her unwavering efforts not only earned her the prestigious award but also significantly contributed to the American Heart Association's vital work in supporting women's heart health.

Reflecting on her experience, Messner shared, "Being a part of the Women of Impact program was an opportunity to celebrate and honor the women in our lives. Our mothers, our sisters, our daughters, and our friends. Each of us has a personal connection to heart disease. Throughout my campaign, I focused on the community becoming a part of something greater than our individual selves. Together, we proved we can accomplish incredible things when we pool our energy and resources. I am proud to have set a fundraising record while becoming the 2024 Kansas City Woman of Impact.”

Amanda Nichols, Senior Director of Development for Kansas City Go Red for Women, expressed admiration for Messner's dedication, stating, "Mary Messner's unwavering commitment to advancing heart health and her exceptional fundraising efforts epitomize the spirit of the American Heart Association's mission. Her impact extends far beyond Kansas City, serving as a beacon of inspiration for women everywhere. Together, we can empower women to prioritize their heart health and save lives."

In addition to Messner's outstanding contributions, this year's nominees collectively raised an impressive 173,915 points, including $129,056 for the Kansas City American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement.

Despite advancements in healthcare, cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death for women, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women globally. Research published by the American Heart Association emphasizes the importance of raising awareness, particularly among younger women, to mitigate the risk of heart disease and stroke.

About Go Red for Women®
The American Heart Association’s signature initiative, Go Red for Women®, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. While the majority of cardiac events can be prevented, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women. For more than two decades, Go Red for Women has encouraged awareness. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power of women to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them tools they need to lead a heart healthy life. The Go Red for Women movement is nationally sponsored by CVS Health, with additional support from national cause supporters.
