Sunrise Health System joins American Heart Association’s lifesaving movement

LAS VEGAS, JULY 15, 2025 — Nine out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of the hospital do not survive, according to the American Heart Association. In most cases, bystander CPR was not performed – wasting precious, potentially lifesaving minutes.[1] That is why Sunrise Health System is taking action to save lives by participating in the American Heart Association’s Las Vegas Heart Walk. This year-long effort culminates in a community celebration on October 18, 2025, at the Las Vegas Aviator’s Stadium. Through fundraising, community education and corporate engagement, Sunrise Health System aims to enhance CPR training accessibility, bolster bystander preparedness, increase funding for vital research, and ultimately, save lives.

“At Sunrise Health System, we believe in making a difference not only in the workplace but also in our community,” said Jackie Van Blaricum, president of HCA Healthcare Far West Division, parent company of Sunrise Health System. “By participating in the American Heart Association’s Las Vegas Heart Walk, we’re helping to raise awareness, fund research, and spread the message of how critical it is to be prepared to respond to a cardiac emergency. We’re excited to take part in an event that promotes health and brings our community together to save lives.”

Additionally, Sunrise Health System is uniting their Las Vegas colleagues at Sunrise Children's Hospital, Sunrise Hospital, MountainView Hospital, Southern Hills Hospital, CareNow Urgent Cares and Galen College of Nursing to show up in a big way for the Heart Walk through a months-long campaign to raise awareness about heart health and fundraise over $50,000 for the American Heart Association's lifesaving efforts. As a part of the Getting to the Heart of Stroke program, AHA and Sunrise Health System supported by the HCA Healthcare Foundation have increased access to self-measure blood pressure monitoring resources for approximately 36,464 people in Las Vegas annually with four local community partners including The Neighborhood Clinic, Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada, The Salvation Army of Southern Nevada and Fisher House of Las Vegas. Sunrise Health System is excited to connect with the community at the walk through their educational experiences, including the Simbulance (teaching ambulance) and a F.A.S.T. signs of stroke interactive activity. Every walker who joins the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk and every dollar donated means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.

Las Vegas companies and community members can join Sunrise Health System for the Las Heart Walk, taking place on Saturday, October 18 at the Las Vegas Aviator’s Stadium. The event starts at 8:30a.m. and participants can register at LasVegasHeartWalk.org.
