Thousands unite in Sacramento to build a community of lifesavers
Sacramento, Sept. 26, 2025— More than 6,000 people gathered at the Sacramento Heart & Stroke Walk on September 20 at William Land Park, raising nearly $900,000 to further the American Heart Association’s lifesaving mission. Nine out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital don’t survive—a sobering statistic that underscores the Heart & Stroke Walk’s urgent call to action: fundraise, learn CPR and take action to save lives.
In addition to raising critical funds, the Sacramento Heart & Stroke Walk brought together heart disease and stroke survivors, as well as participants from 90 local companies, to unite in the mission to save lives. Every walker who joined the Heart & Stroke Walk, every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.
“The Heart & Stroke Walk is a powerful reflection of what’s possible when our community unites around a common purpose,” said Steven Foster, President & CEO of Dignity Health Mercy General Hospital and the 2026 Heart & Stroke Walk Chairperson. “This isn’t just a fundraising event— it’s a movement. Together, we’re building a culture of health, expanding access to lifesaving skills, and working toward a future where every household is ready to respond in a cardiac emergency. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made and inspired by what’s ahead.”

“Creating a Nation of Lifesavers means lives are going to be saved,” said Khuram Arif, M.D., American Heart Association Sacramento Board Member and President at Western Health Advantage. “It’s incredibly powerful to know the funds we raised will help train more people in CPR and advance lifesaving research. Knowing we’re helping to equip our community with the tools to save lives is both humbling and energizing.”
