Waunakee business supports the lifesaving mission of the American Heart Association
WAUNAKEE, Wis. (May 28, 2025) — During the month of April, shoppers and Piggly Wiggly in Waunakee teamed up to support the American Heart Association, devoted to changing the future to a world of healthier lives for all, through the Association’s Life Is Why™ campaign.
Thanks to their efforts, Piggly Wiggly and its customers raised $3,504.15 to help fight cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Heart disease remains a critical issue, with approximately more than 6 in 10 U.S. adults projected to develop some type of cardiovascular disease (CVD) within the next 30 years, according to the latest research undertaken by teams from the American Heart Association. Throughout the campaign, individuals were encouraged to support the mission of the Association by making contributions at checkout, both in-store and online. This initiative aimed to unite communities in the fight against heart disease and stroke and inspire people to celebrate their reasons to live longer, healthier lives.
“Main Street Market Piggly Wiggly is proud to serve our community, not just through their grocery needs, but also through the support of impactful and important charities like the American Heart Association,” said Patrick Kaja, assistant store manager. “Thank you, Waunakee, for your contributions towards the fight against heart disease!”
Donations will support lifesaving research, CPR training programs and initiatives aimed at reducing health disparities in underserved communities.
"Piggly Wiggly’s support of the ‘Life Is Why’ campaign has been truly impactful," said Anthony Ladner, an American Heart Association volunteer. "As the father of a congenital heart defect survivor, my son Charlie, I’ve seen firsthand how critical this work is. Thanks to Piggly Wiggly’s efforts and the generosity of their customers, we can fund more lifesaving research, expand CPR training, and bring essential health resources to communities in need—bringing us closer to a world of longer, healthier lives."
Donations through the Life is Why campaign’s participating retailers—no matter the amount—allow the American Heart Association to implement initiatives such as:
- Fund research that can improve health outcomes for people experiencing heart disease and stroke.
- Train more than 2.5 million high school students in CPR annually;
- Support the work of local entrepreneurs and organizations working to improve health outcomes in under-resourced communities.
