Where fashion meets philanthropy
WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 6, 2026 - The Women’s Board of the American Heart Association will host the 78th annual An Affair of the Heart Luncheon and Fashion Show on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the Marriott Marquis, Washington, D.C. This iconic event brings together hundreds of community leaders, philanthropists and advocates to raise awareness and funds in the fight against heart disease—the leading cause of death among women.
Guests will enjoy a vibrant reception, a seasonal lunch and a stunning runway show presented by Bloomingdale’s, featuring the latest spring fashion trends. The afternoon will also include inspirational survivor stories, a silent auction and opportunities to connect with changemakers committed to improving women’s heart health. The program will be hosted by national television personality Joan Vassos, a longtime Women’s Board member.
“For nearly eight decades, this event has been more than a luncheon; it’s a movement,” said Kara Krause, co-chair of the 2026 luncheon. “Walking into a room filled with women dressed in red, united in purpose, is an unforgettable experience. Together, we are raising awareness and funding lifesaving research and programs.”
Krause is joined by co-chair Rachel Burns in leading the vision for the event. “I am thrilled to co-chair the 76th Annual Affair of the Heart Luncheon with my dear friend [Kara Krause], said Burns. “Sadly, heart disease in women has touched both of our families which makes this event very meaningful to me.”
Founded in 1947, the Women’s Board is one of the longest-standing philanthropic groups in the Greater Washington region. The board is a dynamic, hands-on network of women leaders who share a passion for advancing cardiac care, education and research.
