AUSTIN, June 16, 2025 — This year’s seventh annual CycleNation Austin event, held in April, was the 7th most successful CycleNation event in the country. CycleNation helps to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of stroke, the fourth leading cause of death in Travis County.

The ride featured teams from 10 local companies and individuals who came together to pedal for a purpose. This year’s event included 65 riders and raised over $100,000 for heart and stroke research. JE Dunn was recognized as the Top Company and had a great showing on the bikes while Shaun Mahan brought home the trophy for Top Individual.

Emceed by KVUE Sports Director Jeff Jones, the evening was filled with energy and activities to work the body and mind. Attendees heard from stroke survivor and attorney Jinesh Patel. After an unexpected cardiac arrest and traumatic brain injury, Patel had a long post-acute rehabilitation period, but overcame physical and cognitive deficits. He has since successfully returned to work as a patent attorney in Austin!

“I thought I was going to be able to get home and just walk through the door, and have everything be fine,” said Patel. “But that’s not how it goes – it takes time. Even a year, two years – it takes time. And it takes compassion, and understanding – from others and from yourself.”

Each year approximately 800,000 people in the U.S. have a stroke. However, research shows that up to 80% of strokes may be prevented. Knowing F.A.S.T. and responding quickly in a stroke emergency may mean the difference between recovery and disability - Face Drooping, Arm Weakness, Speech Difficulty, Time to Call 911.
