MIAMI, July 23, 2025 — The American Heart Association, devoted to changing the future to a world of healthier lives for all, has announced Alex Almazan as chairperson of the Southeast Board of Directors for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
Almazan is the founder and managing partner of Almazan Law, a Florida-based litigation and business law firm, where he leads a dynamic team committed to innovation, strategy and client service. Beyond the courtroom, Alex has served as chairperson of the Greater Miami-Ft. Lauderdale Board and the Miami Heart Walk, as well as the National Diversity Leadership Committee. His service has extended to key roles on national committees focused on advocacy, mission alignment and strategic planning. Currently, Alex sits on the National Governance Committee of the Social Impact Fund, where he continues to advocate for inclusive solutions in health and beyond.
During his term as chairperson, Almazan aims to spotlight the Association’s impact across communities – especially those historically under-represented. His priorities include strengthening the connection between national initiatives and local action, amplifying stories of success and working closely with the metro boards to uncover opportunities for deeper outreach and support.
"It’s an honor to serve as chairperson for the Southeast Region of the American Heart Association," said Almazan. "Leadership, to me, begins with listening—especially to the voices in communities where we can make the deepest, most lasting impact. I’m proud to stand alongside passionate board members, dedicated staff, and volunteers to advance our shared mission of saving lives and building healthier futures. Together, we’ll expand access, inspire action, and continue cultivating a nation of lifesavers."
The American Heart Association Southeast region services Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Puerto Rico. Board members will assist the organization in guiding efforts to reduce heart disease and stroke, the Nos. 1 and 5 leading killers, respectively, of American adults.
