The American Heart Association, the world’s leading voluntary organization focused on heart and brain health, issued the following statement in response to the passage of Propositions LL and MM, which continue and expand the Healthy School Meals for All program in Colorado.

“With this election, Colorado voters reaffirmed their commitment to kids health and education. Thanks to the passage of Propositions LL and MM, the Healthy School Meals for All program will continue to provide over 600,000 nutritious meals to students every day, ensuring no child goes hungry and every student has the fuel they need to succeed.

“Proposition LL allows the state to keep all the funds already collected to apply to the program, while Proposition MM ensures there is enough funding for free meals beyond this school year, increases wages for nutrition staff, supports training in fresh ingredient preparation, and helps schools purchase food from Colorado farmers and ranchers. These measures will improve student outcomes, strengthen local communities, and support a healthier future for all.

“The American Heart Association is proud to be part of the broad coalition of local nonprofit organizations, educators, parents, healthcare leaders, and community advocates who championed Propositions LL and MM. Providing kids with healthy meals at school helps them stay focused, engaged, and ready to learn, setting them up for lifelong success.”
