SACRAMENTO, June 6, 2025 — Pacific Coast Building Products, Inc. has taken a bold action to improve cardiac arrest survival rates in Sacramento by becoming the first local company in Sacramento region to join the American Heart Association’s Nation of Lifesavers™ program.
Every year, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests happen outside of a hospital in the U.S., and nearly 90% of those cases are fatal. Quick action with CPR can double or even triple the chances of survival, yet less than half of cardiac arrest victims receive CPR from a bystander. Through its Nation of Lifesavers program, the Association wants to turn bystanders into lifesavers, so that when a cardiac emergency occurs, anyone, anywhere is prepared and empowered to become a vital link in the chain of survival and provide CPR. The goal of the program is to double the survival rates of cardiac arrest by 2030.
“As a company deeply rooted in community and safety, we are proud to be the first in Sacramento to support the American Heart Association in this life-saving effort,” said Phil Bonnell, President of President of PABCO Building Products, L.L.C. “Hands-Only CPR is simple to learn and can make the difference between life and death. We hope to inspire other companies to join us and build a stronger, more prepared community.”
“There are straightforward solutions to improving survival rates,” said Phyllis Baltz, Board President for American Heart Association in Sacramento and Hospital President of Methodist Hospital. “It starts with awareness, education, and creating a culture of preparedness. By stepping up, Pacific Coast Building Products, Inc. is showing true leadership and helping build a Nation of Lifesavers right here in Sacramento.”
In 2017, research showed that women were less likely to receive CPR in public than men, and men had a 23% higher chance of survival. With 70% of cardiac arrests occurring at home, learning CPR isn’t just a workplace skill — it’s a way to protect loved ones.
