ROANOKE, VA, February 14, 2025 — When it comes to the fight against heart disease and stroke - the no. 1 and no. 5 killers of Americans – your American Heart Association needs caretakers to help foster the mission in Roanoke. With that in mind, the Association will be “Glowing Red” with the return of the Roanoke Heart Ball – “Glowing Red: Caretakers of the Torch” – happening this Saturday, February 15, at the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. Funds raised from the event will help save lives in the region. This year’s Heart Ball Chair is Lottie Schottmiller (Delta Dental).

“We are so excited to see the Roanoke area come together once again to celebrate our our local work and to help raise funds for our mission in the region,” said Christie Steele-Garcia, Development Director for the American Heart Association. “We will have a special focus on the unique partnerships we’ve made in the city, celebrating these caretakers of the torch on this special night.”

The Heart Ball will also include both live and silent auctions and live music from The Pizazz Band and the Regency Trio. Funds raised from the event will support life-saving research and education right here in Roanoke.

Area sponsors include Howell’s Motor Freight Company, Carilion Clinic, Nations Best CPR, Paul and Susan Frantz, Branch Builds, Delta Dental of Virginia, Gentry Locke Attorneys, Susan and Allen Wirt, LewisGale Medical Center, the MediSpa at Ridgewood Hill, First Citizens Bank, Marsh & McLennan Agency, Alliant Insurance Services, Inc. WDBJ 7, Q99 FM, and Lamar Outdoor are the media supporters for this event. Antoine Terrell (K92 FM’s Mornin’ Thang) will emcee the event. The event will also have special appearances by Kate Capodanno (WDBJ7), Miss Virginia, Carlehr Swanson, and members of the Virginia Tech Hokie Football Team!

“We can’t say thanks enough to our sponsors and community partners,” added Steele-Garcia. “They helped us bring this beautiful night to the region and, without them, our mission to save lives couldn’t happen.”
